City Guide: Montréal

Montréal has been on my list for a while, but I just never had the opportunity or found the right time to go. Luckily, I finally got to cross it off my list, and it’s all thanks to Tourisme Montréal. Just a short one-hour flight from New York City, I enjoyed 4 days and 3 nights in Montreal, Quebec. I’m sharing my four-day trip in hopes that it could be a helpful itinerary for you in case this city is also on your list. (If you’re like me, with a deep love for Paris, Montréal is a beautiful city to explore. I already know I’ll have to plan a trip back in the Spring or Summer.)

I was hosted at the beautiful Fairmont Queen Elizabeth. It had recently gone through a renovation in 2017 and loved how it turned out. My room was spacious and extremely comfortable to retreat to, stocked with Le Labo products which earned the property some extra bonus points from me. The hotel is located in Downtown Montréal, a very central and ideal area to stay in.

After checking into the hotel on our first day and freshening up, we headed to lunch at Henri at Hotel Birks. It was a beautiful restaurant that was a former jewelry store (part of it still is). I had the steak with fries and I definitely would recommend. The décor is absolutely beautiful and it just has this beautiful ambiance that was the perfect setting for our first meal in the city.

After lunch, we headed over to Old Montreal by the river. A must for Montreal is Bota-Bota, a former historic ferry turned into a high-end spa on the St. Lawrence River. The sauna was my favorite because it gave a beautiful panoramic view of the city. The typical recipe is hot, cold, and rest. I tried my best to follow with about 10-15 minutes in the sauna, followed by a brave attempt at the cold bath OUTSIDE (It was single digits this day) before letting my body just rest in the room temperatures inside in one of the lounge spaces at Bota-Bota.

After the spa, we headed back to the hotel to rest before dinner at this highly recommended Haitian restaurant called Agrikol. We loved the mac and cheese, fried shrimp, and the jerk chicken. If you’re looking for something Instagrammable, check out their bathroom. Definitely a great photo opp.

The morning began with a delicious breakfast at the hotel lounge. It’s probably my favorite meal of the day because I just loved the assortment they had at the lounge on the top floor. Our schedule kicked off with a press conference for the Thierry Mugler exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. To check out more information on the exhibit, you can check out additional info here. It was incredible to hear about his journey and it also got us all excited for that evening. After the press conference, we headed to lunch at Les Enfants Terribles. This is a great place to have lunch and enjoy the view of the city and then you can head on up to the Place Ville Marie Observatory right after. The view of the city is just stunning. The evening consisted of checking out the exhibit and Thierry Mugler’s work, a beautiful collection of his pieces over the years, a must for all my fashion lovers.

Day Three in Montreal kicked off with getting up early to check out this café that has been bookmarked on my Instagram for a few months now. Humble Lion is my coffee shop aesthetic goals and got lucky that the place was practically empty. After taking some photos and enjoying a morning cup, I walked back to the hotel for breakfast before our itinerary for the day began.

This day was a fun tour visiting different hot spots in Montreal that were also places that a lot of people recommended I check out as well. We went to the Crew Collective Café, a co-working space + coffee shop in a former bank in Old Montreal, as well as Ssense, Vintage shopping at Ruse, and lunch at Pastel Rita.

We headed back to our hotel rooms for a few hours. I personally love spending time in the hotel room, a quick nap, catching up on e-mails, etc. That evening, we had drinks at L’Astral and then dinner at Blumenthal.

The next morning, I enjoyed crepes at breakfast, my usual oatmeal and some various fruits. Our fun activity for our last day in Montreal included Pom-Pom class at Harricana, a lovely boutique that re-works recycled fur followed by lunch at Hå. It’s a great Vietnamese restaurant in Old Montreal and I really loved their spring rolls and pho. The broth was perfect for a cold winter day in the city though I can see myself definitely coming back for more even in the warmer months.

Although the trip was short and a bit cold, I could already tell how vibrant this city is. I know there’s so much more to see and I already can’t wait to head back so I can share a little more about this city. If you’re interested in planning a trip to Montréal, check out Tourisme Montréal to help you plan your trip. Thank you so much to Tourisme Montréal for helping me cross this beautiful city off my travel bucket list. I hope to see you again very soon.
