Chanel Jumbo Classic Flap

The Chanel Classic Flap is one of the most iconic handbags ever made and there's a reason why. Over the past few years, many agree that Chanel handbags are great investments. Although prices have risen almost every year, the pieces retain their value, especially if they are well maintained. To this day, the resale market of Vintage Chanel bags are incredible. It took some time for me to save up for this purchase but after graduating college this past May, what better occasion than that to celebrate a Chanel Classic with? This review will go through the unboxing process as well as some things to look at when shopping around for your Classic Flap, especially if it's in the pre-loved market. If you're looking to authenticate a Chanel, check out the link here for some helpful tips.

I opted for the Jumbo size so that I could really get good use out of this bag. For my frame, standing at 5'7" on a good day, this size fits perfectly and holds all of my necessities very comfortably. Chanel is known for their pristine packaging and half the joy of buying the bag is unboxing it when you get home. I have to admit, I was extremely excited to finally add this classic to my collection, always a fan of the less loud and crazy colorful seasonal Chanel pieces.

Quite a large package, and actually pretty heavy, it comes decked out in Chanel ribbons and the usual Camellia, Coco Chanel's favorite flower. The box is magnetic making storing your bag inside pretty convenient. Although, I prefer to store mine simply in the dust bag standing on my bookshelf. It's also advised to wrap the chain or put the chain in the bag to prevent markings. It came packed with tissue paper, all with Chanel printed on it as well.

My collection of purses has changed over the past few years, adding and subtracting certain pieces. I'm happy to report that I was always able to get a good price for all the bags that I've sold because of the condition they were in from storing them properly when not in use. My tip is to stuff the bags so that they can keep their shape, storing it in their dust bags, and making sure they're not in direct sunlight or of course, taken out in bad weather.

Inside the box, the bag is in a white dust bag with a sketch of the quilting on the front and a sketch of Coco Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld under the flap. Inside is the booklet and a mini folder that includes the authenticity card, how to care for the bag, and a cleaning cloth for keeping your bag all nice and pretty.

The goal is to find a Classic that has a good shine to the caviar leather with puffy quilts. Though this bag is very common and comes around every season, it's still not something that all boutiques have in stock. I was put on a waitlist for this bag but Saks happened to have one in stock where I was able to pick up a brand new, untouched, CF. It's a great indication to make the purchase knowing you're the first and only customer that has seen that bag.

The stitching is impeccable, perfectly symmetrical with Chanel on all the hardware on the bag. Though I love wearing silver, there's just something about the gold hardware on the caviar leather that makes my heart sing. If you're looking at the resale market, make sure the stitching lines up perfectly as this can be a good tell if something is fake or not. Again, definitely check some other sites or even get in touch with an authenticating forum on the Purse Blog for example where experts can let you know if the bag you're eyeing is good!

This bag is the double flap and I believe single flaps are no longer being produced. Inside the flap is a small leather compartment, this was designed for Coco's secret love notes. Cute little details are behind many of the handbags, something that makes these pieces just that much more special.

The secondary flap has this beautiful burgundy color and though I never snap on that second flap, I do prefer the double flaps over the singles. I find that the shape of the bag is much better maintained in this version. I was afraid that it would be a hassle getting in and out of it but it's actually fairly easy. I've found that other bags of mine were actually more difficult to open and close. Inside the second flap is the CC stitching and under the logo should be an indication of where the bag is made printed in gold.

The chain has the caviar leather woven through it and can be worn in either a shorter or longer length. On the bag of the bag is a little pocket where I tend to just quickly tuck a card or my phone into if I'm in a hurry. Inside the bag is another pocket on the front, the secret zip under the flap, and the main compartment with two pockets towards the back. There is also a little space between those two pockets though I don't believe there's much use for this unless you wanted to put a short pen in there.

Organization within this bag is fairly easy since all I really carry with me is my phone, wallet, keys, card holder, sunglasses, a lipstick, and my external battery. Unlike my larger bags, nothing really gets lost in my Jumbo since the smaller size makes it easier for me to organize all my belongings.

Just to wrap things up, I want to point out what I feel are the positives and negatives of this handbag. I think these will be helpful and important to keep in mind if you're planning on taking the plunge when it comes to Chanel.

Positives:
- Classic piece that will go with almost everything in your closet.
- The prices will only increase even more, allowing you to breakeven or even make money on top.
- Easy to carry and comes in a variety of sizes to suit everyone.
- Caviar Leather is not as scary as Lambskin. It's extremely durable and ages very well.

Negatives:
- The price tag. The Jumbo retails for $5500 USD + tax but if you happen to be traveling to Paris, buy it there to save yourself a couple hundred dollars, possible even a grand.
- It's a bit on the heavier side due to the leather and the hardware.
- The Jumbo looks awkward when worn cross-body, at least for me.

The Chanel Classic flap is simple yet timeless, a style I appreciate and look for when it comes to handbags. As my collection grows, I know that this was a great investment. It is a handbag that can be easily dressed up or down and I find that versatility is necessary when it comes to staple pieces.
