What's In My Bag? Part II

Handbags, handbags, handbags, where do I even begin? Over the past few years, my collection of purses in all shapes, sizes, and colors have grown. There are days where you need to carry everything, pretty much packing your life away, or you just want to carry a small cross body for the necessities. Rue La La just released their style guide for handbags and this inspired me to do a post of my favorite accessory! Because let's face it, with my skinny jeans and pull-over sweaters for the fall, where else will my long wallet, cellphone, keys, gum, charger, and make-up go?

I'm quite guilty of spending my paycheck on bags and shoes, but can you blame me? I find these purchases to be investments. They're so beautiful and in order to understand it, you have to be able to appreciate the quality and craftsmanship behind a designer bag. Read more to see my favorites, something small, something medium, something large and what I carry inside them.

I decided to pull three of my most used handbags! The smallest being my red Céline Trio in the large size, my Saint Laurent Sac de Jour, and my Louis Vuitton Epi Neverfull MM. These three bags were added to my collection this year and I haven't been able to get enough of them! I opt for a small cross body when I want to keep both hands free, such as a day at the park, a day that involves a lot of walking, or if I'm just looking to add a pop of color to my day. My top-handle, with the option of a shoulder carry with straps, is probably one of my most used bags. I can fit just enough in this without having to fuss around because of multiple compartments. My large tote is perfect for school when it comes to my MacBook, papers, and other school supplies.

The Large Tote:
Let's start with what I've got with me during the school and work week. Because I shuffle between school, interning, and work, my LV neverfull is a life saver! In this large and roomy tote, I've got my laptop, some magazines for inspiration, my planner for organizing my life away, and some other basics such as my cellphone, wallet, and keys. On sunny days, I've got to have my sunglasses in there as well.

The Medium Top-Handle: If I don't need to lug around my laptop, I'll carry my iPad Mini with me in my Sac de Jour. I love the beauty and simplicity of this bag, my fashionable version of a briefcase. This bag will make it's way with me to my internship or shorter class days along with my cellphone, wallet, and keys. I tend to throw in my lipstick color of the day as well. Another thing I adore about my Saint Laurent bag is the fact that I can choose to wear it on my arm or have it hang off my shoulder! Because of commuting in New York City, having less to hold on my arm is a lot better than if I'm not!

The Small Crossbody: Weekends, trips to the park, brunch with the girlfriends, date with the boyfriend, if I don't need anything but my basics, this gorgeous piece is my go-to! I fell in love with the Trio months ago because it was just so easy to wear. I also love the way the pouches are detachable and one pouch can be used as a simple clutch. This bag actually holds a lot more than you think because sometimes I carry my iPad Mini in it as well.

Things that I've learned to always carry with me, besides the obvious cellphone, wallet, and keys, are a card holder, charger, gum, lip-balm or lipstick, hand sanitizer, bandaids, and tissues! Because I am a commuter and frequently ride the subway or take the bus, a card holder is perfect for carrying my ID and MetroCard so I don't have to keep taking my wallet in and out of my bag. I'm constantly on my phone so I definitely always carry a portable charger and my cable with me. As for the rest, those are just things everyone should carry. You never know when you'll feel chapped, when you'll need to clean your hands, tidy up a spill, or put on some bandaids because your brand new adorable shoes want to hurt you before the world appreciates them and people say, "Oh my gosh, I love your shoes!" I hope you have found this post helpful. Whether you're the kind of girl that carries the world in her bag, or the girl that sticks to the basics, a purse is the perfect accessory to add some flare to your outfit.

  2. I wish I could afford to get all these bags! Damn student debts forcing me to be realistic! You definitely seem to know what to pack. I'm going to check out the handbag 101 because I've seen a lot of people talking about how awesome it is.

  3. Can your Mac fit into a medium sac de jour? I'm looking for a handbag for traveling and that can fit all my essentials (Like my Mac Air for starters)

    1. No it can't, unfortunately. I have a 13" Macbook Pro and the weight and size would cause my bag to get deformed and lose it's shape which I really don't want to happen. The small size, which is mine, measures at 12.5" wide but the large SDJ is almost 16" wide so that size will definitely be able to carry a laptop comfortably. If you have the 11" Macbook Air, that should fit the small size if you expand the sides!
