Saint Laurent Sac De Jour

Today, I'm going to be reviewing one of my most favorite bags, the Small Saint Laurent Sac De Jour. It seems as though Hedi Slimane has definitely taken YSL to a more modern and youthful feel ever since dropping Yves from the name. The minimalistic and simple design of the new pieces definitely reflect a more modern edge while still producing such classic pieces. I fell in love with the Sac De Jour immediately. This bag was the perfect size to use as an everyday bag and I thought of it as something subtle yet it still seemed to make a statement. Read more to check out my review of the Saint Laurent Sac De Jour and shop this item below!

SHOP THIS BAG BELOW:

The Sac De Jour has tubular handles, accordion sides, compression strap with tabs, embossed Saint Laurent signature, and a removable (non-adjustable) shoulder strap as well. It's made of 100% calf-skin leather, making it really smooth and soft to the touch. This bag has been said to look like a more youthful and modern Hermès Birkin because of the tabs and accordion sides. However, for me, nothing can ever compare to the Birkin, a bag that has been so highly coveted for many years that I too, hope to one day add to my collection. Hey, a girl can dream, right?

The dimensions of this bag are 32.0 x 25.0 x 16.5 CM. The inside of the bag is lined with suede with a zip compartment in the center. There are also two slot pockets and one zip pocket on the other side. The lock that hangs on the front handle can be used to lock the center zip compartment and the keys are attached to the interior with a snap that you will see in one of the photos below.

The option to expand the bag is definitely a plus. I've used this bag to school several times and it has always been one of my favorites to carry around. Prior to getting this bag, I was torn between this and a Prada Saffiano Tote. The mere fact that I saw a ton of people in the city and in school, especially, swayed me to choose the Sac De Jour instead. There's just something about multiple people having something that makes me lose interest fairly quickly. Why would I want to invest in a piece that so many people already have?

My father surprised me with this bag for Christmas and I was so excited because it's just such a beautiful bag. My aunt and uncle also surprised me with the Saint Laurent classic large wallet that you can see here. Both were purchased at the Saint Laurent store in Hong Kong.

The Sac De Jour currently comes in three sizes, Large, Small, and Baby. The prices vary based on the style and design however the Large begins at $3,290. Small, $2,750. Baby, $1,990. I believe there was a recent price increase for 2014 by about $200.

Since this bag and the wallet, my very first pieces of my Saint Laurent collection, I've also purchased the Classic Y-Clutch as well which will be reviewed at a later time on my blog. I've currently got my eye on another Saint Laurent bag that I'm working towards purchasing this summer or at least by Christmas. This bag is such a staple piece in my wardrobe, being paired with multiple looks as seen on my Instagram, especially with my Chanel Espadrilles. I definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a simple yet beautiful bag to wear everyday. If you have any questions about this bag, please don't hesitate to ask or comment below! Thanks so much for reading!

  2. Hi alyssa! Im considering to get one, but im not sure about the leather. Is durable? Easily get scratches? Now they have the grained leather for their new collection but i think the smooth one looks prettier. Would love to hear ur thought :>

  3. Great Post. Thank you so much for sharing your review and gorgeous photos. 6 months down the track now, how do you find our bag? is it still holding it's structure? is the leather durable? or scratch easily? I've heard that it can be heavy, what is your experience?

    1. Hi Penelope!

Thanks so much! I got this bag in January so after almost a year, it still looks just as good as the day that I bought it. I take extremely good care of my SDJ and make sure I don't weigh it down with too much stuff so that it may maintain it's shape. It's one of my favorite bags so I definitely want to keep it in its best condition for as long as possible. Because it is smooth calfskin, I half to be careful with it but not to the point where it's impractical to use. The grained leather is definitely a better choice if you're not as careful with your purses but due to my bags, I'm able to rotate between a variety every so often. As for the weight, it really depends on what you put into it. I never carry too much where it's uncomfortable to wear on the elbow/shoulder. I hope this helps!

  4. Hi Alyssa,

I'm wanting to buy the SDJ but I need a bag that will fit my laptop in for work! Is the bag big enough to carry a laptop?

    1. Hey Amy - did you ever get an answer to this? Also, looking to see if it will fit an 11 or 13 inch laptop

    2. I've only been able to comfortably fit my iPad mini into this bag. Not sure about an 11 inch but my 13 inch definitely does not fit in this bag. I would go with the larger size SDJ if you're looking to fit a laptop.

  5. Thanks for your post! Was the saffiano lighter? My husband got me the gorgeous leads turnlock in this light smokey gray but I had to return it bc for my "I live in yoga pants, LuLaRoe leggings etc" it was just too structured and formal. I was debating between this and the saffiano but leaning towards this bag in the bright blue. For a homeschool mom on the go constantly do you feel like I can keep the bag scratch free? I have a few Chanel's but none in the lamb skin so am a bit concerned on that and the weight as I've heard it's a very heavy bag!

  6. Oh, and do you feel like one is less formal between the saffiano and the sac de jour? I want one that will look okay with my black leggings and a t-shirt but also look great for a date night!
